What is ZOMF?
In short, ZOMF automatically and seamlessly delivers your music, pictures and videos the way you want for free. Unlike many of our competitors who charge annually, we do not see why users have to pay to get their own content onto their smart phones or PC’s. You can specify the media types (music, videos or pictures) and delivery settings you want (PC to smart phone or smart phone to PC) . ZOMF works on Windows and on most smart phones and allows different connection methods including Wi-Fi and GPRS, which means you are not restricted by cables or distance. ZOMF is easy to setup and configure and requires no interaction with the user.
What is so special about ZOMF?
ZOMF is a free, reliable, seamless solution to getting your media to or from your smart phone or PC. ZOMF protocols are unique and optimised for rugged communication environments whilst conserving battery life. We presently support Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, Symbian and Android devices and have a development plan to support all remaining major smart phone platforms.
With ZOMF, the files reside on your own devices instead of a server or cloud, so they are immediately available to you wherever you are. There will never be the problems associated with streaming content onto your handset when you are on the move (poor connections) nor the associated data costs. For the commuter and traveller this will be extremely beneficial, as you do not have to keep an eye on your Internet connection. Because your content is stored on your devices, privacy is far more assured. This also means that you do not have to pay a monthly charge for online storage space – it is free!
So, it is free. Are there any hidden charges?
No, ZOMF does not charge for delivering your content. However, depending on your mobile tariff you may be charged for data transfer by your service provider. We advise that you use a Wi-Fi connection to avoid these charges (or BES\BIS available to BlackBerry users) if possible.
What type of Windows platforms does it work on?

I pressed Sync Now! on my PC but my files are not being delivered !
ZOMF on your PC is always connected; however, ZOMF on your smart phones connects at regular intervals and sleeps when files have been delivered in order to conserve battery. After your files are successfully delivered, each time ZOMF connects and does not find files to deliver , ZOMF sleeping time gradually increases from 2 minutes to 1 hours to save your battery power.
Pressing Sync Now! on your PC while ZOMF on your smart phone is sleeping will not have any effect. You need to press Sync Now! on your smart phone to instigate a delivery or transfer of media.
What Does Sync Now! do ?
On your smart phone, Sync Now! connects ZOMF immediately to check for new files to deliver. If you have more than one smart phone connected, pressing Sync Now! on a smart phone gives it priority to check for new files first.
Pressing Sync Now! on your PC tells ZOMF on your PC to leave other tasks for later and start checking and delivering new files immediately if other connected smart phones or PCs are found!
The pictures and videos I took with my smart phone are not being delivered to my PC
- Check that the camera application on your phone uses the same folders as your Picture and Video Sync Centres. You can do this by going to your camera settings and checking if the camera application is storing pictures in the memory card or phone memory. For how to access you camera memory settings, check your device manual. To check your Sync Centre locations please see FAQ> General> How do I check the location of my Sync Centres?.
- Have you chosen to ignore files present in your smart phone when you added your smart phone to your ZOMF account? To check ignored files and include them, see FAQ> General> I ticked “Do not transfer files already present ” when i added my device, can i change this at anytime?
- Have you selected Services for this device correctly ? please see FAQ> General> What Services settings are available ?
Will ZOMF deliver content in my subfolders?
Yes, ZOMF will deliver all files in your subfolders. For this reason, ZOMF will not allow 2 Sync Centres to overlap with each other (contain the same subfolders), except for some Windows Mobile or android phones where the camera uses the DCIM folder strucuture. for more information please check Windws Mobile and Android FAQ.
How does ZOMF handle hidden files?
Hidden files are usually device-specific and are typically of no use to other devices. For this reason, ZOMF ignores them.
How are deleted files handled?
After you delete a file from a device, no attempt will be made to download it again unless the file on the remote device is newer than the one deleted. To re-enable delivery of a file, right click on the ZOMF icon on your windows system tray, select manage files, select your device then the deleted files tab. You can choose which files you want to restore. Files can be re-delivered only if they still exist on at least one of your other devices running ZOMF.
I have restored my files using the Manage Files window but they do not get re-downloaded. Why?
Files will only be restored if they exist on other devices under the same account.
How does ZOMF connect my devices?
There are two main types of connections, Proxy Connect and Direct Connect [DC]. Please see below for more information.
What is Direct Connect [DC]?
DC works by connecting your devices directly to each other, Prefereably via your router and by bypassing the internet, we call this Turbo [DC] because it is fast! Please see below for more information.
What is Turbo [DC]?
ZOMF intelligently determines if two of your devices are connected to the same network via the same router, in which case it connects them directly via the router rather than via the Internet. We have named this Turbo [DC] because it can give you very fast data rates.
What is Proxy Connect?
Proxy Connect is used If ZOMF can not establish a DC connection between your devices, for example because of your firewall software. ZOMF overcomes firewalls by delivering your content via ZOMF Proxies, which are ZOMF servers on the Internet. You do not need to worry about your privacy as your content is not stored and is merely forwarded.
Proxy connect can be considerably slower than [DC] and Turbo [DC]. Please look at FAQ>Usage Guideline for information about data speeds and FAQ>Firewall to help you achieve [DC] with ZOMF.
I am unable to use Direct Connect [DC] between devices on the same home network
Firewall software installed on your computer may be preventing this. Please check the firewall section in FAQ.
File transfer is slow
There could be a variety of reasons:
-
Unstable connection – If you have an unstable Internet connection (e.g. GPRS), you may suffer from disconnections and files will take longer to get downloaded.
- Connection method – Mobile networks are governed by their relatively slower data rates and your Wi-Fi connection is bounded by the limits set by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Direct Connect [DC] will give you faster data rates. Please see the "Usage Guidelines" FAQ for more information on data rates.
- Anti-Virus software – ZOMF works by transferring files quickly between your devices. Anti-virus software on your computer may detect this and scan all the data transferred by ZOMF. This is meant to be for your protection but adversely affects the performance of all applications including ZOMF. You will need to add an exception to your AV software which allows the program to continue protecting your computer while removing the restrictions to ZOMF. To do this, go to Settings of your anti-virus software and add an exception to the following folder: C:\Windows\Temp.
ZOMF is using DC but it is still slow
This could be due to several reasons including:
Antivirus software performing scans on your computer while ZOMF is delivering content.
There are two types of DC, please look at “Usage Guidelines” to see which one is faster.
Download/upload speed can be affected by slow access speed of your memory.
Why does ZOMF keep telling me I do not have enough memory when I do?
It is commonly known that the performance of a memory card decreases vastly when it is more than 90% full. To deal with this, ZOMF does not allow downloads to occur when there is less than 10% of memory available. The capacity values from your phone are correct.
ZOMF is not delivering a particular file. Why?
Firstly, make sure there is enough space (>10% free plus the size required for your files). Then, try to remove symbols and non-English characters from the file name.
How often does ZOMF check for new files on a mobile device?
When you press SyncNow! on a mobile device, ZOMF connects immediately. If no new files are available, or if no other devices are connected, ZOMF disconnects and reconnects after a short period. To conserve battery life, this length of time will gradually increase from 2 minutes to 1 hour.
How to disable ZOMF
You can also disable ZOMF in each of your clients to prevent any connections from occurring by pressing "Disable" from the ZOMF menu on your mobile or by pressing stop client from the application menu in the system tray on your PC .
ZOMF has not detected my new files.
To conserve battery life, ZOMF will only check for new files before each connection. In the middle of a delivery, new files will not be detected.
How can I view my connected devices and what ZOMF is doing?
The main screen of the ZOMF application on your smart phone will tell you what ZOMF is doing. Furthermore, right clicking on the ZOMF icon on your system tray on your PC and then pressing on “View User Network” will display information about your devices including a simple graphical representation of what they are doing.
I want to disable ZOMF temporarily. What should I do?
Simply click disable from your mobile ZOMF menu, or exit the application. After this, ZOMF will not synchronise your music until it is activated manually or your device is restarted (if autostart is enabled).
On ZOMF on your PC, you will need to right click on the ZOMF icon on system tray then click “Stop Client”.
To start ZOMF on you PC again click “Start Client”. To start ZOMF on your mobile again click Sync Now!
